ABSTRACT

This study guide examines the issues of wellness, ageing and quality of life amongst the elderly population from a holistic perspective. The theoretical section describes the ageing process and old age from biological, psychological and social perspectives, describes demographic trends and examines the determinants of quality of life among older adults, including nutrition and the methodology for measuring it. A significant part of the work focuses on the specific characteristics of physical activity and the development of fitness and wellness programmes tailored to the fitness levels and health status of older adults. The practical and research section provides an analysis of physical and wellness activities among older adults aged 65 and over and presents the results of selected comparative studies focusing on fitness, leisure activities and quality of life among older adults living in various conditions and environments.
